Daniel Calvo and Tomás Pariente, both members of the new AI, Data & Robotics Unit, contributed to the paper "An Artificial Intelligence-Based Collaboration Approach in Industrial IoT Manufacturing: Key Concepts, Architectural Extensions and Potential Applications" which was published in the Special Issue: The impact of Emerging Technologies on Sensor-Bases Systems/Solutions from MDPI.

The paper focuses on the digitization of the manufacturing industry under the Industry 4.0 concept, which requires a holistic integration of Artificial Intelligence technologies to promote collaboration in terms of business intelligence optimization, human-in-the-loop and secure federation across manufacturing sites.

Three technical pillars are presented as an architectural approach addressing current challenges derived from having isolated and disperse parts involved in the production process.
